WtPB Episode 22 - WTF Movies

This week Sarah(@SarahScullbag), Derek(@Larzm)and myself(@king_of_bob) selected three very strange movies to discuss. There will be spoilers throughout this post and there will be lots within the episode as well, so be prepared. The movies we selected are Zombeavers, Rubber and Kung Fury.

While we do spoil each of the movies heavily, it's unlikely to affect your enjoyment of any of these movies. So don't feel like you need to watch all three of these movies before listening. In fact, I wouldn't recommend all of these movies to all people. They have specific audiences. None of them have broad appeal.

We started with a movie called Zombeavers. Which is probably the least strange of the movies we chose this week. The setup is very similar to the setup for Return of the Living Dead 2, where a barrel of chemicals falls off a truck and into a stream. Only instead of humans being zombified, it's beavers. The movies protagonist is a young, kind of bratty girl named Zoe, played by an actress named Cortney Palm. Who is really the only character with an arc, which is probably why she's the only marginally likable character in the movie.

If you're into b-movies, Zombeavers should be right up your ally.

We then moved on to Rubber. Which right off the bat explains to the audience that there's no point in asking questions, because there's no real reason for anything. And it's good that they explain this, because the premise of the movie revolves around the idea of a tire suddenly animating with telekinetic powers who then goes on a murderous rampage while an audience observes. Strange barely scratches the surface of just how weird this movie is.

If you like Lynch's style of storytelling, this movie may appeal to you. Though that's just a guess. I'm not entirely certain what the exact target audience is on this one.

Lastly we talked about a short movie called Kung Fury. It's a very strange mashup of kung fu, time travel, 80s cop movies and side scrolling action video games. The story revolves around a hero who goes by the name Kung Fury, who becomes the greatest kung fu fighter of all time after being struck by lightening and bitten by a cobra at the same time. He then takes on a mission to take out the other greatest kung fu master of all time, Adolf Hitler, AKA, the Kung Führer.

The movie is just as insane as it sounds, but it's incredibly well done. If you like balls to the wall action movies, you should give this one a go immediately.

For the last portion of this episode we announce our new podcast which will be premiering next week with Derek and myself. It's going to be a general chat show which we're going to call Double D Talks. The last portion of this episode is kind of a preview of that, as we start rambling about things that have nothing to do with either of the 3 movies we discussed this week.

But let's get to this weeks episode, shall we?

As always we encourage you to check out our convenient Amazon links to purchase the movies we discussed this week.  But even if you don't buy these movies, anything you buy after following these links goes towards helping us out.
