The Orphanage: Simon or Thomas?

This one should be short and sweet so hang in there kiddies.

I watched The Orphanage again last night, and upon going to IMDb to discuss it this morning, it seemed there was a debate over whether it was Simon or Thomas that locked Laura in the bathroom. It seemed pretty straight forward to me thanks to one piece of evidence that is undeniable.

So what is it? Well, it's something that is brought back to the audiences attention several times. When Laura is pushed into the bathroom she grabs at the mask and pulls off a piece of the artificial hair that tops the mask. She shows it to several people throughout the movie and the police even have it dated and tell her it's roughly 30 years old.

This means that it had to be Simon who pushed her into the bathroom, as Thomas is a ghost. Which by definition is not a physical entity. Even if she did manage to pull a piece off of Ghost Thomas' mask, it wouldn't be physically real so she wouldn't be able to show anyone and they certainly wouldn't be able to date it. And she definitely wouldn't have been able to hold onto it throughout the entire movie.

So there you have it, the single piece of evidence that proves it had to have been Simon and not Thomas.
